The hospital design prioritizes meeting essential medical requirements and mandatory standards approved by the Iraqi Ministry of Health, ensuring a safe and effective treatment environment. The process begins with a review of the Ministry of Health's hospital design guidelines, which define the requirements for medical departments, infection control standards, patient, staff, and visitor flow, as well as specific regulations for operating rooms, intensive care units, and isolation rooms.
The design includes providing the required spacing between critical medical departments and adhering to positive and negative pressure requirements in operating rooms, intensive care units, and isolation rooms, in accordance with the Ministry of Health's instructions and international medical standards. The design of the central sterilization unit also considers the Ministry of Health's instructions and international medical standards, implementing complete separation between contaminated and clean areas, a key requirement for Iraqi health approvals.
With the provision of rooms in the emergency department, the design adheres to requirements for rapid reception and triage of patients, including equipped resuscitation facilities and protective barriers appropriate to the nature of the equipment.
The medical design also includes the provision of medical gas networks according to specifications, along with dedicated rooms for storing cylinders that meet ventilation and protection requirements. Patient transport pathways and logistics are also designed to minimize contact and prevent transmission of infection, which is a key element of the Iraqi Hospital Code.
